I work at the <a href=\"http:\/\/\/dccg.upc.edu\">UPC research group on Discrete, Combinatorial and Computational Geometry<\/a>. I did my PhD at Utrecht University, under the supervision of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.uu.nl\/staff\/marc.html\">Marc van Kreveld<\/a>. Before going to Utrecht for my PhD, I studied at the Computer Science Department of the <i>Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales<\/i>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dc.uba.ar\/\">Universidad de Buenos Aires<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Research interests<\/h2>\n<p>I work mainly on <strong><span class=\"topic\">Computational Geometry<\/span><\/strong>, an area between computer science and mathematics concerned\u00a0with finding efficient <strong>algorithms<\/strong> for geometric problems (problems involving geometric objects, such as points, lines, or triangles). I have worked on several different areas of Computational and <strong><span class=\"topic\">Combinatorial Geometry<\/span><\/strong>, and I am particularly interested in problems that are motivated from <strong><span class=\"topic\">Geographic Information Science (GIS)<\/span><\/strong>. That is, problems originated from GIS applications that can be formulated as geometric problems, and where tools from computational geometry can be applied. I am also interested in <strong><span class=\"topic\">Graph Drawing<\/span><\/strong>, an area that studies\u00a0algorithms to compute <i>nice<\/i> drawings of graphs (<i>nice<\/i> has to do with the idea of &#8220;aesthetically pleasant&#8221; drawings); it is a very interesting field related to information visualization, computational geometry and graph theory, among others.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about my research, see my <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dccg.upc.edu\/people\/rodrigo\/publications\/\">publications page<\/a><\/strong>.
